Elementary Course of Study
Haywood Christian Academy's goal in the elementary years is to develop lifelong learners - young scholars who think "Christianly" and have the needed skills and confidence to work independently and collaboratively. We begin the day with a life application Bible lesson for "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Our gifted teachers use Christ-centered textbooks for instruction in phonic-based reading. Grammar, vocabulary development from Greek and Latin roots, spelling, writing, classic and historical literature connect with history lessons to complete the Language Arts program. Math and science are taught from a Christian worldview and include experiments, games and projects in addition to drill and practice activities. History comes alive through story, videos, re-enactments and project-based learning. PE or recess is part of the daily routine. Music, art and Spanish provide opportunities for enrichment and exploration of other time periods and cultures. Click to view the entire Elementary Course of Study.
